Hello all, and welcome to the second Friday of NaNoWriMo! I’m here to report good progress. In the first 12 days of the month, I wrote a grand total of 33,316 words. That means that today, I will pass the 2/3 point of my novel! Now, let’s get to the fun stuff, the evidence:

My progress out of the gate was stellar, as I discussed last week. Since then, I’ve encountered several unforeseen problems, and it’s both slowed my pace, and my motivation. That being said, I have still met my daily word count of at least 1667 words per day. And, apart from my lack of writing so far today, we can see in Figure 1 my progress since day 4 has actually been at a slightly better pace than is required to hit the 50k mark. The software estimates I’ll be done on November 18th, and that sounds about right.

In Figure 2, we can see my daily word count. Again, apart from today when I haven’t written anything yet, we can see my pace has been pretty well around 2,000 words a day, apart from the first three days when the words in my brain were still fresh, and my brain was firing on all thrusters. I think this figure helps to illustrate the fact that writing a novel is not a sprint, though fortunately I avoided the issue of losing steam after my initial sprint.
Some of the problems I’ve encountered I have yet to resolve, but what I’ve already fixed has made for a better story, and will hopefully make for a more interesting read. If I finish the book before the last two Friday updates, I intent to discuss my plans for publishing, and the challenges therein.
Thanks for joining me again this week and until next time, keep reading!
