Who is This Guy?

Alright, so here I am. A brand new blog. A virtually unheard of person who claims to be a writer. So the questions we have before us, at least in this immediate instance, are:

  1. Who am I?
  2. What am I doing here?

Well, let’s start with that first question, probably the more important of the two. My name is Stephen McMillan, and I’m a physicist. But that’s not the most critical point to the story here. The important bit of information is that I like to read. I always have. The joy of writing is something I didn’t really discover until I left high school. In the time since then, I’ve written several half finished novels, and a plethora of short stories, none of which are worthy of publication, I’m afraid.

So that brings us to the second question. Last year, I started to write my first novel that I actually intended to finish. My first novel that I actually intended to publish. But then I realized, I had bit off more than I could chew. So, I’ve started a second novel, which I guess will actually be the first. I’ve been plotting it out for the last few weeks in my spare time, and while it’s a much less ambitious project, it’s one I’m even more excited to write.

So that’s why we’re here. I’ll be taking part in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this year, as I did last year, and I intend to write my second-first novel. As I finish the process of drafting the novel, the lead up to November (NaNoWriMo), and the process of writing (and everything that comes after), I’ll be sharing my process, my thoughts on the book thus far, and some snippets from character bios to short stories based around the main plot of the story.

I’m a scientist and an educator at heart, so the process of writing is something that I find fascinating. When I read a book by a new author, I always wonder how their process works, how it differs from my own. So, I’ll be sharing my process with you, every step of the way.

So that’s it, that’s why we’re here. It’s going to be a fun road, and hopefully we can all learn something together.

See you next time!

Stephen
